Edge Architects takes a distinctive approach on sustainability with a wood-centric approach
EDGE’s team as Lead Design Consultants (LDC) and Architects has delivered a successful project in one of the world’s busiest hotels, managing a live hotel environment, with extensive structural modifications, new infrastructure, new MEP provisions, a new commercial kitchen and a full fit-out under a stringent deadline and opening date.

Being the oldest rugby club in the United Arab Emirates, the client’s aspiration was to have a clubhouse that would reflect the club’s rich history of over 50 years. The design intent was to give the space a vintage industrial aesthetic using a dark high ceiling, exposed structural elements, painted brick walls and rugged concrete flooring.
It’s no secret that the construction industry is massively male biased. A CIOB article published on November 1, 2017 revealed that women make up only 13% of construction sector workers, while only 2% of workers on-site are female. These are staggering numbers that must be addressed, particularly as the demand for talent to build future cities, and infrastructure, is expected to skyrocket in the coming years.
1/JBR will stand apart from the overwhelming majority of today’s multi-unit buildings. The uniqueness of the scheme comes from the fact that in the lower two thirds of the building, each elevator lobby will be shared by only two neighbours per floor.
EDGE have been commissioned to take on half of the new development’s scope, totaling 1.8 million m2 of gross floor area. This includes 3 hotels, cultural facilities, residential, offices, retail and mixed use.
Edge now has the Revier Hotel, which is the first in Middle East, the Hilton Garden Inn and Holiday Inn Hotel and Residences on its portfolio. All three hotels are located in Business Bay, Dubai.
The luxury flagship project 1/JBR, taking shape on one of the final plots of land in the sought-after Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) district, is on track for a timely handover in Q4 2019.
